New Tumbling Program Director!
Parents,
I am very excited to announce that our tumbling program has a new director. Stephanie Johnson lives here in Cedar City, she was level 9 Gymnast and a Cheerleader at both the High School and Collegiate Levels. She has over 10 years of experience coaching gymnastics and tumbling, specializing in Skill development and progression strategies. She has been the Team Director at Bare Foot Gymnastics in St. George where she designs and implements programming to help athletes advance their skills efficiently. She trains, guides and supports coaches- helping them grow in their roles so they can positively impact the athletes they lead. Welcome Stephanie! We are so excited to have you as our Program director.
With this addition to our program, our coaches will participate in trainings several times during the year, in addition, we are going over each skill level and fine tuning them. This might mean that some skills in each level will change and move to another level. As always, the first few weeks of the season we evaluate students and their skills to be sure they are where they need to be so that they can succeed and pass off their skill levels. We may ask them to move up or down a level. Most will stay in their current level and be asked to work on one or two skills so that they can stay in their current level. Please know that this isn't a demotion if they are asked to move, this is us making changes to our program so the kids can better succeed. You cannot skip skills and move into a level you aren't prepared for, because each skill has a set of skills that follow it in the next level.
We will also be asking the athletes to come to class on time, to come prepared to work and willing to do the things coaches ask of them. Their hair needs to be pulled up into a pony tail, or bun (for those with longer hair) so coaches don't step on it while they are spotting them. They all need to be in form fitting, athletic wear to participate in class. We no longer require students to cover their stomachs during class, however, please have them wear clothing that isn't a distraction to the learning process. Please talk to your child about showing respect to their coaches, and no skipping drills. This only slows their personal progress and we want each of them to succeed. A higher standard and expectation will be required from coaches and athletes. They should come out of class, tired and having worked hard. I hope you all are as excited about these changes as I am, this may be an adjustment for some of them. Please be supportive if they come out of class having worked harder and having higher expectations than before. I know they are capable of great things and we intend on being here to facilitate that for them. :)
